 1935 Riley ’Beetle-Back’ Sports Tourer SpecialUnique, Historic ex Racing car Riley Chassis Nr 6027553This much-modified former VSCC Racer started life in 1935, we believe as, a Riley 12/4 Adelphi Saloon. The wide track chassis was shortened, underslung and configured to a track car. A former owner raced this well-known single-seater for 25 years, and the car proved itself over many seasons. In the last 6 years the car has been rebodied from racing trim to a lightweight 2-seater road car with handsome tourer coachwork reminiscent of a ‘Beetle-Back’ Sportscar of the pre-war era. The design is unique and does not seek to replicate any make or production model. Currently fitted with a Dolomite Sprint multi-valve engine skilfully mated to the Wilson Pre-select Gearbox with electric overdrive. A Riley 12/4 engine should bolt straight back in should a new owner wish to return the car to the VSCC circuit, however it would not drive as fast, smoothly or as nicely as it does with the current trouble-free combination.It offers the best part of a vintage 12/4 running gear but with strong, torquey post-war engine for very rapid and comfortable touring across UK & Europe. It also has a handy boot for luggage.
