A 1972 low mileage good condition Rover P6 2.0L Auto. Still in original factory condition, ie not been faffed with! Good runner. Tax exempt. Recently had auto transmitsion overhaul, now running beautifully. Original owners handbook and workshop full manuel.

This is a special car and whilst it has been my pride and
joy it deserves a new home as we have had to buy a new car so that my wife can
drive her elderly parents around, it means that this car just isn’t getting
used.  The Sterling is too low for the
oldies to get in and out of and too large (and basically too nice) for my wife
to potter around town in.

This is quite possibly the best Rover Sterling Fastback on
the market, it is low mileage and in excellent condition and has obviously been
looked after throughout it’s life.  It
deserves an enthusiast who wants to cherish or show her off.

This is a genuine sale from an honest ebayer (see my
feedback) .  You are welcome to come and
see the car.  Any test welcome.  We are in Harrow (North West London – HA2
postcode).

I bought this Rover from an elderly gentleman who had owned
it since 1999.  He was somewhat upset to
see it go as he had obviously looked after it for over a decade, using it
semi-regularly but certainly only taking it out when the weather was good.

I looked for an awfully long time for a low mileage manual
Rover Sterling Fastback before finding this one and will be sorry to let it go,
but it is the most sensible thing to do as I’ve rarely used it over the last
few months.

Here we have HUC, a 1975 Rover 2200 auto in Lunar Grey with a Sandalwood cloth interior. She has covered just under 31k miles from new.


I owned this car myself from 2006 (I was the second owner) until 2011 when she was passed on to a fellow Rover enthusiast, Sadly ill health now means she's now temporarily back in my care and needs to go to a loving new home.


She has an excellent history file with the original service book, a BMIHT heritage certificate giving build date (5th December 1974), and every MOT from 1983 onwards.


She was purchased new by a gentleman in Hampton, Middlesex, for his wife at Christmas 1974. He bought the car from H.R. Owen, the famous London car dealership, and as she is an Owen's car she has the characteristic dealer plate under the bonnet. Apparently Owen's had the pick of cars from Rover, and HUC has the extra of Sundym tinted glass, as well as a very heavy duty Dixon-Bate tow bar with custom strong bumper irons to support it.


The car was used minimally until approx 2000, when she came off the road with just under 17000 miles on the clock. I came across her in 2006, garaged, but with a blown transmission drive plate. At this stage she still was wearing her original Pirelli Centaurato tyres.


After recomissioning I used her my personal transport for nigh on five years, covering some 12000+ miles in her, including numerous long distance trips including epic runs to North Wales (twice) and Scotland. She was never less than 100% reliable, and in that time she was a featured car (I think twice) at the International Classic Car Show at the NEC and was subject of a back to back article in 'Classics' magazine (a copy of this magazine comes with the car). She's still as reliable as ever, and got us back from Cheshire a couple of weeks ago in style.


She is currently MOT'd until November 11th 2012 and the tax disc expires at the end of June 2012.


Bodywork:


This car has never been touched with a welder and is in excellent structural condition. Panelwork is also very good, and thanks to a lot of care and attention by the current owner she looks superb and very shiny in the paintwork department. When I first got the car in 2006 we had the bonnet and the offside rear wing repaired and painted, this still looks excellent. There is a small amount of bubbling on the front wings where the strengthening plate is, although this is not really noticeable unless you look closely. The remaining paintwork is all apparently original.
 
The doors are extremely good with no corrosion evident. The chromework and door handles are in very good order. I replaced the front bumper with a really good one a few years ago. The back is also very presentable. She has wing mirrors as well as a standard Wingard mirror on the driver's door

Mechanics:

HUC has always been looked after properly mechanically and the engine is smooth and quite with no chain rattles etc. When I first had the car, whilst the engine was out the side plates were replaced with new ones. We also changed the head gasket a few years ago due to leakage from the 'O' ring at the back of the engine. The radiator was re-cored in approx 2007. She has a Kenlowe electric cooling fan which was a Rover P6 specific unit I was lucky enough to obtain a few years ago. She can be driven quite happily with no engine fan at all (I did for a year) however both an engine fan and the electric one are a good idea in really hot weather. She had a trip to esteemed P6 expert Clive Annable's premises last year and he re-shimed the engine, as well as adjusting the gearbox, which is excellent and changes as it should.
 
I changed the front calipers from new ones in 2008, and Clive recently changed the rear brake pads. Braking is, and has always been, excellent. Flexi hoses have been replaced as and when needed.
 
The tyres are older, but all matching and in good condition. She has a new battery (2012).

Interior: 

The Sandalwood cloth seats are in good order. There is a little sun damage to the back seat and shelf (fading) but nothing drastic. She's never had headrests, but these could be fitted easily. She has inertia reel rear seat belts which we installed in approx 2007. The carpets are in excellent order and the driver's side one was actually a new one a few years ago. She has a period Radiomobile radio which works very well. She is a very comfortable and cozy car to ride in, the heater is exceptionally good (a feature of automatic 4-cylinder P6's).

To sum up:

HUC needs a loving new owner to take her on, she's ready for showing, and can also double as an excellent back up family car when needed. She will reward with comfortable, reliable motoring.
