I have owned this car for four years, and have used it in numerous rallies and vintage car parades in Ireland.


It drives as it should due to the care and attention of myself and previous owners, however as I did not have a garage it was stored on my driveway, and last winter suffered water ingress through the windscreen rubbers [New ones in the boot] and this has caused the laminated fascia veneer to lift [See steering wheel photo] 


It is now stored in a barn in Ireland, and has I have now returned to live in the UK, and have nowhere to keep the car, it is with regret that I have to sell it.


Also my health dictates that I find it difficult to work on it, so it needs a new owner.


The car is an excellent starter and driver and cruises effortlessly, this model had the very first front independent suspension on a production car ever and it shows in the ride.


Although used by the police, they were a true luxury car, being derived from the Morris MO series, with additions such as wood dash, door caps, extra instrumentation, heating system etc. follow this link for full details of model;

Here are the bad bits, although the bad bits arent that bad, the car is 61 years old after all.


Bodywork


1. Due to a poor respray some years ago [before I bought it] surface rust is lifting the paint off, no major rust anywhere just surface due to poor prep work when painted. The body is solid.


2.  Leather upholstery [originally red] has been painted, before I bought it, with a green leather paint, this can be painted again properly [red shows through at seams.


3. Door cards are good, but a couple of armrests need new leather.


4.  Dasboard ends [both sides] are delaminated as mentioned above, and need reparing/replacing.


5. Carpets [were new] have some stains from water ingress but will clean up, and new headlining has sagged in centre, but easy to refix I'm told.


6. Brightwork is peeling and rusting to bumpers handles etc, although radiator grille is ok. could do with rechrome, or stripped and metal polished.


Mechanical


5.  Rear exhaust bracket has snapped off and needs replacing, [easy repair]


6. Gear linkage could do with slight adjustment, not a problem as it changes fine, sometimes but rarely hesitant when selecting second gear, just me being picky.


7. Rear crankshaft seal leaking, this is a common fault on the 6/80, the leak is small and most owners just top up the oil as and when which I do, but there are solutions for a quick fix available from the Wolseley owners clubs, links below

Electrics


1.  Ignition switch has just failed after 61 years, a new one can be bought to suit existing key so all locks match, I havent ordered one and will leave that to the new owner, and as it works sometimes, I have bypassed it with a hotwire which is doing no harm and easy to remove..


2. Interior lights not working


3. Original Smiths clock doesn't work.


Everything else works, and the car is totally original, since owning it I have had it serviced every year, new oil and filter, grease, especially front suspension, which is a must.


New parts fitted in my ownership include, Battery, Voltage Regulator, coil, Spark Plugs, Fuel pump and condensor/rotor.


A new Gold seal engine was fitted in 1961, and is still in the car, it runs sweetly, and has full compression in all cylinders, I have all the documrntation and bills for this new engine, and a large ringbinder full of  letters, invoices, tax discs, Mot's, etc from the past 50 years, which provides a fascinating look at the cars owners and the repair history.


I will drive the car from Ireland to anywhere in Great Britain for £250 inclusive of ferry and fuel.


There are a few spare parts in the boot, missing front and rear window trims are in there along with new window rubbers, spare hub caps and old Voltage Regulator [repairable]


All in all, nothing too serious, or expensive to fix, mostly time, except for Chrome and paintwork, unless you are a car sprayer, or keep it as it is with localised paintwork, your choice, as a respray is not essential, I am only saying whats needed to get the car to concours condition, you can do nothing and just enjoy it as it is.


I have a sensible reserve on the car as I would like it to go to a good home, please only bid if you are going to keep and use it, there are not many left.


Boring Bit


I have been as honest as possible with my description, the car is 61 years old and all that goes with that, it is exactly as described, bear in mind I am not a mechanic and offer no warranty whatsoever, the car is sold as seen, and as stated I am prepared to deliver it to the UK mainland for £250 inclusive of Ferry and Fuel.


Please only bid to buy, if you want an everyday car this is not for you, no central locking, power brakes and steering, cd player, just an honest old girl looking for a caring owner to drive her more than I do.

My father and I have decided that this car has been waiting for
some much needed TLC for too long and we do not have the time or space.  

So it’s time for someone else to have the
chance.

This vehicle could be restored to its former glory or for
all you “Rodders” out there, it could be a great Rat / Hot Rod, but that’s up
to you!

Due to its age the car does have rust holes in the floor and
chassis and has a bent wing. 

The engine has been removed but I still have it and
it is included in the final price.

It has a low reserve as the intention is to sell.
